The Drover's Wife.
(This is how I play it - Capo the 7th fret, yes, I did say 7th fret! and play the chords below. If you don't want to use a capo substitute the following:
G - D, Am - Em, C - G, Em- Bm, D - A
Just be careful, some browser settings throw the chords out of alignment with the lyrics. Most default settings should be fine however.
I am currently experimenting with writing Tablature for some songs. This is a time consuming task but if you visit this area from time to time you will find updates in one way, shape or form.)
G
There's a lonesome sound outside tonight
Am
as the rain falls down there's no starlight
C G
anywhere to brighten up the sound,
C
The sound of a distant thunder cloud
G Em
a booming voice that speaks so loud
Am C
sends shivers through the dry
G
and barren ground.
(Verses - same pattern as above)
And it must be a lonely life
way out west as a drover's wife
19 miles along a dusty track,
but each new day as it comes around
brings a new and different sound,
perhaps today the drover will come back.
Chorus.
C
For the rain will make the grass
G
grow on this land,
C
from the salt bush plains up to
G
the desert sand.
Em
There's hope within the wind
D
that whistles by
Am C G
in every cloud in every clear blue sky
C D
and in every dream that ever
G
passed you by.
(verse 3 followed by Chorus again.)
As the rain falls down throughout
the night
she sits and sews by a candlelight
thinking of the day that he'll return,
but perhaps tomorrow will be the same
and another night of dreams in vain
will vanish like the candle as it burns.
But the rain ...etc.
