1. The Man of the Weekend

Originally wriiten in 1993, this songs has been attempted several times and failed to make the grade. This version, which also failed, is an outtake from "Let Isabelle Out" 2005. (Vocals are up too loud, accompaniment is OK, song is a bit long and boring.)

2. Reconciliation - Greensongs Version

This is a version of Rec not available on any of our CDs. It was recorded especially for the Australian Greens compilation CD "Greensongs." It was recorded in Cooranbong (near Newcastle) earlier this century, the exact time I'm not sure. (This is a gem! It is in stark contrast to the aggressive live version on Jenny's Flowers.)

3. The Rivers Return (Without Simone)

Recorded around 1996, this song was available on the CD by Dawson and Spring called "The Rivers Return." It is no longer available.Brad Sping is the other guitarist, Ali Christopher was backup vocals and Brett Christopher played the haunting flute. (Too many effects on guitar, too much compression, too high a key, little confidence in vocals. Otherwise a good song.)

4. The Waterfall. (Without Simone)

The original version, also from "The Rivers Return" album. This version was recorded in 1996 at Newcastle with Vanessa Purcell on recorder and vocals. (Pretty good "original version" to be compared with the version on "The Malfunction Room." This one is too fast and over compressed to the point where it is wrecked.)

5. The Drovers Wife (Without Simone)

This version is an outtake from "The Malfunction Room" and featured Jenny Donald on violin and Vanessa Purcell on recorder. It did appear on a no longer available EP called "The Avondale Sessions." ( Too high a key, too rushed, lazy vocals and delivery.)

6. The Man they couldn't Root, Shoot or Electrocute

Recorded as a demo in 2004 for the Frank Sample show. It was originally called "Rise" but then changed as that particular title seemed to watery for Frank. The song features Trev Dunham on bass. (An absolute diamond in the rough. This one regardless of amateur recording literally kicks ass!)

7. Scab Take Action

Also from the infamous 2004 "Frank Sample Show." (This was just for demo purposes. This needs to be factored in!!)

8. The Ballad of the little Ford Laser

This has been a hugely popular song at live shows over the years. It has never been commercially available and probably never will. Here is a pretty reasonable demo version. (An obvious home recording but a gem!! Have a listen!)

9. Poor Boy a Long way from Home

This is a traditional song. It is not really an outtake from "Let Isabelle Out" but more of a blueprint to help define the album. (Definitely mucking around. A blueprint! Remember that!)
