Rare Recordings Part 2

The following songs were never intended for "listening pleasure." In fact, they were not ever intended for public listening at all. These 5 songs (well, 4 and 3/4 actually) were recorded at Troy Horse studios around 2000. The intention was simply to document some songs I knew I would probably never sing but didn't want to forget. Who knows? Perhaps someone else may want them???!!!

Glenn Skuthorpe had a similar idea with 5 or so of his songs so we grabbed a 6 pack each and hired the studio for the afternoon. We later retired to his place with another 6 pack each and had a listen to the songs to see if they were any good. Glenn ended up using most of his but I archived mine. Unfortunately the master (DAT) was lost and I decided to forget about the recordings forever.

2009.

About a week or so ago while cleaning up I found an old metal cassette that was broken. I sticky taped it back together and had a listen to see what was on it!! And there they reappeared. I had a listen. Passable. Some significant noise. The last song rudely truncated from where the tape broke - but otherwise.... OK!

Again, I must stress. These were never meant to be released. They do not suit my singing or preferred guitar style. They are, however, pretty cool songs.

1.Cannot turn back

Originally written around 2007. It was directed at certain people who were not coping particularly well with middle age.

2. Lighten up the world

Around 1995. I think this one has potential and would be good in the hands of another performer.

3. When I get up at night

I recall writing this in the early 90s. It was intended for electric guitar, drums, bass - the whole bit. A rather "scary" song

4. The streets of a small town

Again, early 90s. This was also intended for a band.

5. Kelly

This was written in 1997. I can still remember writing it. The song is very dark!! It could have been on "The Malfunction Room" but didn't. Unfortunately the last few lines have been cut off from where the tape broke. Here are the end lyrics:

"and every night night is just the same

in walls of grey and blue

I close my eyes and sleep again

Oh Kelly can I ever forget you."

Feedback on all of this is most welcome. Please email craigdawson2 @ yahoo.com.au - no gaps. Anyone is welcome to cover these songs.
